MEMBERSHIP REMINDER!

As a reminder, our membership year has moved to April - but we will start to take updated membership renewals starting at Chinese New Year. When you are there, you can either renew your membership at the special table, or pick up the form that you can use to check your information and send it in to our new membership coordinator, Michele Lang.

During the next year we are planning some great events, and would like to hear from you about what you would like to see from FCC. A survey will be launched at Chinese New Year for the membership - and can be filled out on paper at the event or online. We hope that everyone will give feedback as to the types of events you would like to see. Some of our ideas include: more age-appropriate activities such as Pump It Up parties, more ice skating or swimming parties, more Symposiums featuring speakers for the adults, and offering workshops.

Any questions regarding membership can be sent to Michele at: michele_lang@hotmail.com

Any questions or ideas about events can be sent to Lara Peterson at: larap@microsoft.com

FCC HERITAGE CAMP!

DATES:  Friday, July 10th to Sunday, July 12th

Would you and your family like to learn more about Chinese culture?  If so, the Chinese American Culture Camp Weekend is the place for you. Families will get a chance to relax, make friends, participate in camp activities and learn more about China and its culture.  Please join us for the 15thth year of our Chinese-American Heritage Camp at Camp Casey on beautiful Whidbey Island.

Our special guest this year is Dr. J.D. Zhang.  Originally from China’s Sichuan Province Dr Zhang uses rapidly changing facial colors and expressions through King of Masks, displaying different motifs of China opera in a split second.  He is also the master of traditional Chinese magic performing in Las Vegas and at New York’s Lincoln Center.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS

The FCC Board of Directors is a dedicated group of volunteers who bring you the events that everyone enjoys, such as Chinese New Year, Heritage Camp at Camp Casey, our annual Egg Hunt, and symposiums for parent education. However, these events do not plan themselves. We are now searching for FCC Members to join the Board of Directors. Due to member terms ending and board members moving out of town, we need to fill approximately 8 positions.

Without these positions filled, it is doubtful that we can move forward and offer our members the great events during the next year, or give the opportunity as your sons and daughters grow to have a close-knit group of Chinese peers who were also adopted. Imagine not being able to offer your child the opportunity to join a FCC tour to China, giving back to orphanages and other events!

We aren't quite PBS, but we do need YOU to help out! Please contact Lara Peterson by email at: larap@microsoft.com or by phoning at 425-890-3911. Jobs vary from general board positions, to helping to plan events, to working with teens and more.  We have a great time, and hope that you will consider joining our board. More information will be coming soon!

ABOUT FCC-NW

The Northwest Chapter of Families with Children from China (FCC) is an organization of families with Children from China.

The organization sponsors several events in the Puget Sound area including a Chinese New Year's celebration and an annual summer heritage camp.  Our events are well attended, fun and create opportunities for our members to meet other families.  Check out our photo gallery.

The organization also has an email list-serv; enews, a quarterly newsletter and publishes an annual directory.

The organization is run by volunteers and a board of directors.  We encourage members to raise issues, make suggestions and volunteer.  If there is an activity that you believe would benefit our members, please let us know and we will be happy to help advertise, schedule or sponsor it.

If you find any websites, links or know of any upcoming events that would be of interest to your members, please contact Lara Peterson larap@microsoft.com or Paul Camera pcam5@comcast.net and they will see that they are added to the site.
